Summary of Duties:

Under the general direction of the Common Services Property Assistant, the Specialized Technician is responsible for:

  • Undertaking repairs or maintenance on crown assets, leases and crown equipment, in accordance with safety and security regulations, standards and procedures which includes attending to emergency problems and long-term maintenance projects.
  • Assisting with maintenance projects in several functional areas such HVAC, refrigeration and boiler operations.
  • Assisting with lifecycle maintenance and repair planning for the refurbishments of the accommodations during the summer rotation period, including providing input on building conditions, local conditions and/or history of property or building.
  • Performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs related to emergency or non-emergency work orders from staff.

This selection process is open to locally engaged staff at the High Commission of Canada in Accra holding an indeterminate, term or temporary employment who meet all of the essential qualifications and employment conditions and whose applications are received before the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

      • A diploma or certificate from a technical or vocational school in the field of HVAC and/or Refrigeration.

Language:

      • Proficiency in English (oral and written).

Experience:

      • At least two years of relevant experience in a similar technician position conducting HVAC and/or refrigeration repairs.
      • Experience managing projects for small construction.
      • Experience supervising contractors to ensure repairs and maintenance are properly completed.

 

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:

      • Knowledge of repair techniques in at least one (1) of the following two (2) areas: HVAC, Refrigeration.

Competencies:

      • Effective Interpersonal Skills;
      • Integrity;
      • Effective interactive communication (oral and written).

Abilities:

      • Ability to follow instructions;
      • Ability to prioritize workload, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

      • Valid driver’s license.

Operational Requirements:

      • Overtime may be required.

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

      • Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
      • Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
      • Other conditions of employment: The appointment of the successful candidates will be subject to Medical Clearance.
