SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The mission is seeking to fill a Specialized Technician (Electrician) position for the common services team. This position provides general services and expertise related to electrical systems and projects at all properties related to the High Commission of Canada in Accra. Core responsibilities include but are not limited to: Maintenance of assets and equipment; Assisting with maintenance projects; Assisting with lifecycle maintenance and repair planning of staff accommodations; Performing troubleshooting and repairs related to electrical systems.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education
This position requires:
- A recognised certificate from a technical or vocational school in the field of electrical or electrical engineering technology and a valid certified electrical wiring professional (CEWP) certification issued by the Energy Commission under the Electrical Wiring Regulations (L.I. 2008).

- An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.*
*An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience refers to: For applicants with a high school diploma but without any technical or vocational school diploma, a combination of training and additional 5 years of working experience in a related field may be accepted. However, applicants must hold a valid CEWP certification.

Language
The Following languages and proficiency levels are required for this job. Candidates will be formally assessed or requested to provide proof of certification on these levels.
- An advanced proficiency level in English.
Experience
In order to perform the duties relevant to this job, the following experience is required.
- 4 years cumulative relevant experience in conducting electrical repairs and/or work.
- Experience managing small construction or electrical projects.
- Experience supervising contractors or workers to ensure repairs and maintenance work are properly completed.

- Knowledge of repair techniques in the areas of electricity and electrotechnics.
- Knowledge in occupational health and safety codes.
- Knowledge in industry CE/BS codes.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
- Experience working in a diplomatic mission.
- Experience in HVAC, boiler and/or refrigeration systems.
- Experience in generator maintenance and repair.
- Living in the greater Accra region.
- Knowledge of French.
- Experience in other trade(s).
- Holding a valid Ghanaian driver’s license and capability to operate a vehicle in Ghana.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Operational requirements will be assessed on a ``meet/does not meet`` basis and can be used to determine right fit of a candidate for the position.
- Hours of Work: Normal hours of work of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 40 hours per week.
- Overtime: Willingness to work overtime on short notice.
- Travel: This position may require limited occasional travel domestically and-or internationally.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada.
