Summary of Duties:

As the Senior Commercial Officer – British Columbia (BC) for the Province of British Columbia you will be working under the general direction of the BC Managing Director, India based in Delhi.
The position is required to contribute to the planning, development and delivery of the Province of British Columbia’s trade promotion and investment attraction activities.
Area of Selection/Eligibility:
This position is open to individuals who are currently residing & eligible to work in India, including all employees of the High Commission of Canada and Canadian missions in India, who meet all of the essential requirements stated below, and whose applications are received by the closing date.

Essential Qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience, and must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
*Language will be assessed further during the process.
Education: Full-time Post Graduate Diploma or Master’s degree in a related field from a recognized college or university.
Language:
- Advanced proficiency level in English (reading, writing, comprehension, presenting and speaking).
- Advanced proficiency level in Hindi (presenting and speaking).
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience (within the last 7 years) in trade and investment promotion AND at least one or more of the following areas: innovation partnerships, international/ government relations.
- Experience developing and managing client and stakeholder relationships and providing superior service and support to customers/clients.
- Experience managing projects (including strategic planning, contracting, tracking/reporting results and budget management).
- Experience providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues.
Rated Requirements:
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the Indian business environment, business community, regional governments and ministries as well as the trade and regulatory environment.
- Knowledge of the factors that influence trade and investment and aftercare decisions.
- Knowledge of trends and recent developments in ICT or Digital entertainment in India and a broad understanding of the Digital entertainment industry in Canada.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, tailored to the appropriate audience.
- Organize, prepare for, conduct, and follow up to a business meeting.
- Research, analyze, and provide strategic advice for senior officials.

Asset qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
- Experience working with a diplomatic mission in promoting international trade and investment attraction.
- Knowledge of Marathi language
Operational Requirements:
- Hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week.
- Candidates must be available to work overtime as and when required.
- Must be willing to travel within India and internationally.
Conditions of Employment:
Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.
- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
