Summary of Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Common Services Officer, a Senior Driver:  

  • Provides safe and reliable driving services to Embassy employees, including the Head of Mission, Embassy staff and official visitors and dignitaries;
  • Provides logistical support and delivery services for all Embassy programs; 
  • Supports the official vehicle fleet maintenance program, including tracking logs and maintenance activities as required;
  • Provides basic administrative support to the mission; and 
  • Undertakes other tasks as required.  

In fulfilling these duties, a Senior Driver remains compliant with all driving regulations and practices, always ensuring the highest standards of safety and security; works with a high degree of discretion and judgement; exercises flexibility and adaptability; and demonstrates organization. 

 

Area of Selection:

This position is open internal and external applicants who are legally authorized to work in Israel. Candidates must meet all the essential qualifications listed below. Applications must be received by the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

  • Completed secondary school diploma; 
  • Valid Government of Israel driver’s license with a Class C, C1 or E rating and a clean driving record. 

Language:

  • Advanced proficiency in written and oral Hebrew. 
  • Advanced proficiency in written and oral English. 

Experience:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of recent* experience as a professional driver who undertakes regular and significant passenger driving duties for a private company, a public or non-government organization, or as a self-employed individual (i.e. taxi driver).   
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in general office support or logistical and delivery services.  

    * “Recent” is defined as experience gained within the last five (5) years. 

 

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of roads and destinations in Tel Aviv and its surroundings (Gush Dan), Jerusalem and its surroundings and Israel’s intercity road network.  
  • Knowledge of Israel’s driving regulations.  
  • Knowledge of road safety principles and practices.  
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance concepts. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Previous experience working as a professional driver for a diplomatic mission or international/governmental organization. 
  • Relevant training in advanced driving practices, such as hazard avoidance or defensive driving. 
  • Experience driving armoured vehicles and/or related training.  
  • Experience interacting with VIPs/dignitaries. 
  • Proficiency in written and/or oral French. 
  • Proficiency in written and/or oral Arabic. 

 

Operational Requirements:

  • Availability and willingness to work overtime when required, such as early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, sometimes with short notice; 
  • Availability and willingness to travel occasionally and on short notice; and 
  • Required to be in good health with vision and hearing appropriate to the main duty of driving (visual aids such as glasses, contact lenses, or hearing aids are acceptable). 

 

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

- Other conditions of employment:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Government of Israel driver’s license with a C, C1 or E rating.   
  • Must maintain a clean driving record throughout your employment at the Embassy; 
  • Must be able to meet the medical requirements as defined by the employer. Successful candidate(s) will be required to undergo a medical evaluation;
