Summary of Duties

As a member of the Common Services Program, the Driver Messenger provides transportation for authorized passengers; delivers and collects a variety of official documents and materials; and ensures proper maintenance of the official vehicles. Their role may require transportation coordination where they are primarily responsible for itinerary planning and organization of routes and activities.

Area of Selection

This selection process is open to all applicants eligible to work legally in the Philippines including all Embassy employees, spouses, and dependents of Canada-based staff, and who meet all the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.

Applicants must be available to participate in any tests and or interviews at the Embassy of Canada to the Philippines, in Manila, during the competitive process.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Language:

  • Intermediate fluency in English (read, write and speak)
  • Intermediate fluency in Filipino (read and speak)

Education:

  • Secondary Diploma from a recognized establishment or an acceptable combination of education and experience

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years (within the past 5 years) of passenger car driving with one of the following:  

  • Multinational company (ex: major hotel chain, cab services)
  • A diplomatic mission/ or personal driver to a diplomat
  • Official driver for a federal or state level government agency

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to plan, control and organize day-to-day tasks and deliverables.
  • Ability to professionally operate an automotive vehicle (automatic transmission)

Knowledge:

  • Practical knowledge of general vehicle maintenance
  • Knowledge of the driving rules and regulations of the Philippines
  • Knowledge of major city roads and landmarks especially in Metro Manila and nearby areas

Asset Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

  • Ability to communicate in French (orally or in writing)
  • Work experience in a diplomatic mission and/or international organization
  • Experience with computer applications, including Microsoft Office

Operational Requirements:

  • Regular schedule is 40 hours per week.
  • Be able and committed to working additional hours as required, and on short notice, during evenings and weekends.

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

  • Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
  • Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
  • Meet the employer’s medical requirements by undergoing a medical evaluation by a physician.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license of the appropriate category to operate a motor vehicle in the Philippines.
  • If non-citizen of the Philippines, have the possession of or ability to procure a valid working permit in the Philippines for an indeterminate period.
