SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The mission is seeking to fill a Senior Driver position for the Department of National Defense (DND) program as well as various general services positions that may arise following this selection process. 

Under the general supervision of the Defense Attaché Assistant, the position provides confidential driving services to the Department of National Defense (DND) staff by ensuring the highest level of safety and security while driving and by following all required local and safe driving regulations and practices. 
Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Courier and logistics services
  • Delivery and errand services to all mission programs
  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Completes other driver related tasks as required

This position is open to individuals who are legally authorized to work in Türkiye who meet all the essential qualifications and whose applications are received before or on the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education

This position requires:

  • A Secondary/High School Diploma (or equivalent) from a legally recognized institution.

Language

The Following languages and proficiency levels are required for this job. Candidates will be formally assessed or requested to provide proof of certification on these levels. 

  • An advanced proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking) in English.

 

Experience

In order to perform the duties relevant to this job, the following experience is required.

  • Minimum three (3) years of recent* experience as a professional passenger driver (e.g. taxi, tourism company, limousine, bus) in the city of Ankara and its surroundings. 
  • Minimum one (1) year of recent* experience in general office support. Experience may include completing errands and/or delivery of courier and logistics services.  

*Recent is defined as within the past five (5) years.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Similar and/or previous experience working for an Embassy or Consulate or an international organization.
  • Experience driving armored vehicles.
  • Experience dealing with VIPs and/or dignitaries.
  • Knowledge of the French language (spoken).

 

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Operational requirements will be assessed on a 'meet/does not meet' basis and can be used to determine right fit of a candidate for the position.

  • Hours of Work: Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, based on a flexible schedule such as 09:00 to 17:00 and 12:00 to 23:00.  
  • Overtime: Willingness to work extensive overtime on short notice. Duties outside normal working hours may be required such as evenings, statutory holidays, and weekends, or in emergency situations.
  • Travel: This position may require limited occasional travel domestically or internationally outside of Ankara, or around Türkiye.
  • Physical capacity: The position requires standing and moving for long periods of time, as well as bending and crawling as necessary. Capacity is also required to lift heavy loads up to 25 kg.
  • Dress code: The employee must be willing to adhere to a professional dress code, which includes wearing a shirt and tie during work hours.  
  • Program support: When not immediately required to perform driving duties for the program, the driver may be gainfully employed by the Embassy Dispatch Section to undertake other transportation-related tasks. Tasks include driving assignments, deliveries, vehicle maintenance, and vehicle registration activities.
  • Specialized training: The employee will be required to undergo special training to drive an armored vehicle to ensure the safety of authorized mission personnel in high-risk locations.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position. They are to be maintained throughout the employment period.

  • Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
  • Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada. 
  • Health screening: Applicants must meet the requirements of a medical examination which will be a condition prior to appointment.
  • Driver’s License: Applicants must be in possession of a valid Turkish driver’s license and have a clean driver’s license record.
  • Citizenship Disclosure: The successful candidate must disclose to the Embassy if they hold Canadian Citizenship before being employed at the Embassy or if they obtain the Canadian Citizenship at any time during their employment with the Embassy. (Please note that Canadian citizens or residents and Canadian dual nationals may be subject to Canadian income tax deductions.)
