Summary of Duties:

Under the direction of the Common Services Officer, the successful candidate will provide safe driving services to senior officials, program managers, mission staff, and other visitors or dignitaries. They provide courier and logistics services, arrange for vehicle maintenance and cleaning, undertake vehicle administrative duties, and may additionally support the mission by assisting with basic administrative, protocol, maintenance and other support services following established mission and departmental policies.

Driver provides transportation, delivery and/or errand services to the Canadian High Commission programs.

 

Area of Selection:

This position is open to applicants who are currently residing and have a valid work authorization in Bangladesh and to all mission employees occupying an indeterminate or term position, who meet all the essential qualifications stated and whose applications are received by the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

 

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

 

  • Completion of Higher secondary level education from a government recognized school.

OR

  • An acceptable combination of education and experience will be considered.

 

 

Language:

  • Fluency in English (Intermediate)
  • Fluency in Bengali language (Advanced)

 

Experience:

The candidates must have:

  • Minimum of 4 years (within past 6 years) of experience as official driver with any of the following:
    • multinational company (ex: major hotel chain)
    • a diplomatic missions/ or personal driver to a diplomat
    • an international or non-governmental organization

 

 

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of local routes of Dhaka and Overall Bangladesh
  • Knowledge of local and safe driving regulations and practice
  • Knowledge of good vehicle maintenance procedures

Abilities: 

  • Coordinate conflicting priorities within tight deadlines and meet work targets.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

 

  • Fluency in French (writing, speaking, reading)

 

 

Operational Requirements:

  • Hours of Work: 45 hours per week (Rotational duty)
  • Availability to work overtime – evenings, weekends if necessary – sometimes on short notice.

 

 

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

- Other conditions of employment:

  • Prior to being hired to this position, the successful candidate will be required to pass a complete medical examination (funded by the mission), before being offered a position in the High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh.
  • The candidates must have:

    • a valid Professional driving license.
