Summary of Duties:

 

Under the direct supervision of the Common Services Assistant, the responsibilities of the position holder include:

  • Providing safe driving services to senior officials, including the Head of Mission, program managers, mission staff, and employees, as well as to visitors or dignitaries, in addition to ensuring delivery and/or errand services;
  • Providing safety recommendations to passengers regarding travel in the vehicle;
  • Driving officials and mission employees in a regular or armored diplomatic vehicle while adhering to health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Liaising with local authorities such as airport offices, protocol offices, postal services, customs and licensing authorities, as well as shipping companies and other service providers, to facilitate the clearance of shipments for the mission and CBS (Canada-based staff), high-level visits, diplomatic pouches, etc.;
  • Performing tasks related to the cleaning and regular maintenance of vehicles, including armored vehicles;
  • Practicing environmentally friendly driving techniques;
  • Carrying out job-related tasks such as paying toll and fee charges, ensuring monthly parking fees are paid, updating the daily logbook, and completing allowance forms.

 

 

Area of Selection:

This process is open to mission employees holding an indeterminate or term position, as well as temporary employees, who meet all the essential qualifications and whose applications are received before the closing date

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

 

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

  • Successful completion of at least the BFEM (Brevet de Fin d’Études Moyennes) or an acceptable combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

 

Language:

  • Fluent French* (oral and written);
  • Basic level of English (oral);
  • Knowledge of Wolof (oral).

    *The incumbent must have sufficient proficiency in French to understand instructions and communicate information with colleagues, local authorities, and traffic officers.

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of recent professional experience as a driver for a diplomatic mission, an international organization, a Canadian government-funded project, or in providing driving services to diplomats*

  • Experience driving both manual and automatic transmission vehicles
    *Recent means within the last five (5) years.

 

 

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Greater Dakar;
  • Familiarity with local driving regulations (Highway Code);
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet Explorer).

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Valid Government of Canada Reliability Status
  • Knowledge of automotive mechanics
  • Basic first aid knowledge

 

 

Operational Requirements:

  • Work hours: 40 hours per week
  • The incumbent may be required to work overtime, with or without prior notice, including outside regular working hours and on holidays.

 

 

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

- Other conditions of employment:

  • Before an offer of employment can be made, candidates must provide a local address as proof of residence in the given country, city, or region so that, if selected, it will appear on the offer letter;
  • Be in good physical condition: carrying suitcases and packages, changing tires, etc.;
  • Meet the medical requirements, including vision and hearing (mandatory);
  • Valid driver's license for the entire period of employment;
  • Valid passport;
  • Complete and successfully complete specialized training to drive an armored vehicle and ensure the safety of authorized mission personnel in high-risk locations.
