SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The mission is seeking to fill multiple Security Guard positions for the Readiness program.

Under the supervision of the Head Security Guard or the Security Supervisor, the Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the protection of people, property, and information by maintaining a deterrent presence and responding to risks, while safeguarding the integrity of the embassy’s sites and related facilities. Most work shifts take place at the embassy, with some assigned to the official residence or other locations designated by embassy management. Responsibilities include access control, identity and package verification, monitoring entrances and surrounding areas, conducting patrols, overseeing security systems, and responding to incidents or emergencies. The guard prepares reports, applies security procedures, welcomes and assists visitors and staff, manages the screening of consular clients, guides and escorts them, communicates necessary instructions, and monitors visitor flow to ensure safe and efficient service. The guard also responds to public inquiries and consults with the supervisor or management as needed.

These positions require Expertise in security. Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Control access to buildings and sites, including verification of identification, searches of persons, and inspection of packages.
  • Conduct security patrols in assigned areas.
  • Monitor security systems.
  • Respond to incidents.
  • Draft reports and maintain up-to-date records related to incidents, irregularities, and security breaches.
  • Apply rules, policies, and procedures to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Welcome and assist visitors and staff while maintaining a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude.
  • Welcome consular clients upon arrival for their appointments and ensure access control and security screening in accordance with established procedures.
  • Direct and escort clients to the appropriate services or offices, ensuring they reach their appointments smoothly and securely.
  • Provide clear instructions regarding consular procedures and the security measures in place.
  • Monitor visitor flow to ensure security and service efficiency while maintaining a positive client experience.
  • Respond to public inquiries by providing general information in accordance with established procedures.
  • Coordinate responses with supervisors or emergency services as needed.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education :

This position requires:

      • Having completed Grade 9 (basic level) from a legally recognized Secondary/Highschool.

Note: Candidates will be required to provide proof of their education.

Language :

The Following language and proficiency level is required for this job. Candidates will be formally assessed or requested to provide proof of certification on this level.

      • A basic proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking) in French.

Experience :

In order to perform the duties relevant to this job, the following experience is required.

      • At least two (2) years of experience in a role involving interaction with the public or clients, such as welcoming and assisting visitors and staff, and directing and escorting clients to the appropriate services or offices.

Competencies :

All competencies will be assessed. All competencies must be met prior to appointment.

      • Knowledge of general procedures and practices for the security of persons and property (searches, use of X-ray equipment, etc.).

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • English – basic level (spoken).
  • French – intermediate level (spoken and written).
  • Professional experience within a diplomatic mission or an international organization within the past five years.
  • At least six months of experience in the security sector.
  • Specialized training in the security sector.
  • Holder of a university degree.
  • Holder of a valid driver’s license.

 

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Operational requirements will be assessed on a “meet/does not meet” basis and can be used to determine right fit of a candidate for the position.

  • Hours of Work: Normal hours of work of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 48 hours per week.
  • Overtime: Willingness to work overtime on short notice.
  • Ability to work on a rotating schedule, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to remain seated, standing, or on patrol for extended periods, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring physical exertion or the movement of heavy loads.
  • Good physical condition; willingness to wear the required uniform and equipment.
  • Ability to travel to the required sites, including the Embassy (Lac II) and the Official Residence (Upper Gammarth), according to the shift schedule.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position. They are to be maintained throughout the employment period.

  • Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
  • Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada.
