Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Military Police Detachment Commander and under the supervision of the Security Program Officer. The Security Guard welcomes the public, controls access and badges (as well as their distribution), and guides visitors to the various Canadian services within the Embassy and the Canadian Cultural Centre. He/she may also direct them to the various Canadian or French services in Paris. He/she manages the switchboard, keeps the activity register up to date and controls the receipt of deliveries.
Detailed description of duties
1) Security and access control at the Embassy and the Canadian Cultural Center
- Control access to the Embassy and the Canadian Cultural Center, as well as authorized vehicle access to the parking lot.
- Monitor cameras, intrusion, fire and technical alarms.
- Carry out doubt removal.
- Perform technical searches, security palpations according to operational needs, control and receive visitors wishing to enter the Embassy or the Canadian Cultural Centre.
- Detect suspicious behavior.
- Distribute appropriate passes to visitors, trainees and staff.
- Control the wearing of badges by employees and visitors on Embassy premises.
- Maintain a register of activities (staff entering and leaving outside normal working hours, visitors entering and leaving, events, issue and return of badges).
- Support the private security guard at the entrance to the Embassy.
- Accept and record any found objects until they are handed over to the ir military policeman on duty.
- Assist with emergency calls.
- Perform any related duties requested by the Military Police Officer on duty, the Security Program Officer or the Military Police Detachment Commander
2) Reception:
- Welcome visitors and direct them to the various Embassy departments.
- Receive mail and deliveries for the Embassy and the Canadian Cultural Centre.
- Distribute various information brochures.
- Answer switchboard calls and direct callers to the appropriate departments.
Area of Selection:
This position is open to candidates who have the right to reside in France and work legally on a permanent basis as an employee at the time of application, and who meet all asset qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
*Language will be assessed further during the process.
Education:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
- French Baccalauréat or equivalent (secondary school certificate) or an acceptable* combination of training and experience will be taken into consideration.
*An acceptable combination of education and experience is defined as 2 years of experience in physical security and access control in a private institution or company, or in law enforcement or the armed forces. Experience in customer service may also be considered.
Language:
- Excellent knowledge of read, spoken and written French.
- Basic working English, spoken and written. English used to welcome visitors.
Experience:
- One (1) year's recent experience (within the last ten years) in the physical security or access control sector of a private institution or company, or in law enforcement or the armed forces.
Or
- Two (2) years experience in providing services in direct contact with customers (receptionist, etc.).
RATED REQUIREMENTS
The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of standard software, particularly Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word), and the use of Internet search engines.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
Education:
- Brevet de technicien supérieur (BTS) or equivalent in the security field
- First aid certification (SSIAP)
Languages:
- Good knowledge of read, spoken and written English.
Experience:
- Experience in homeland security or armed forces
- Training or practice of defense sports or martial arts.
- Experience as a first responder, police, EMS, firefighter.
Operational Requirements:
- Full-time position, 5 days a week, staggered hours.
- Able and willing to work overtime on short notice.
- Fast availability.Good physical condition (able to stand statically during shift, able to carry a heavy load, able to walk up several flights of stairs in case of emergency, etc.).
- Given the make-up of the current team and the regulatory requirements in terms of safety - dignity - respect and psychological comfort relating to same-sex security palpations, priority will be given to female candidates or those recognized as such.
- A mixed pool of candidates will be created for future positions.
Conditions of Employment:
Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
