SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Canadian Security Officer and under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Security Guard is responsible for contributing to the maintenance of the security integrity of the Embassy of Canada compound in Algeria. These positions require security expertise and the ability to diligently apply established policies, procedures, and directives to ensure the protection of personnel, assets, infrastructure, and mission operations.
Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Control access to mission buildings and sites, including verifying identification, screening visitors, and inspecting individuals, personal belongings, and packages in accordance with established procedures.
- Conduct security patrols and inspections within assigned areas to detect, prevent, and report any anomalies, irregularities, or situations that may compromise security.
- Monitor security systems, including access control systems, CCTV surveillance systems, and other security equipment used by the mission.
- Respond to security incidents, implement emergency procedures, and coordinate response activities with supervisors, security team members, or emergency services, as required.
- Prepare reports, incident summaries, and maintain records related to events, irregularities, interventions, and security breaches.
- Apply security rules, policies, operating procedures, and directives to ensure compliance with mission requirements.
- Welcome and assist visitors, embassy staff, and members of the public in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Receive consular clients upon arrival for their appointments, provide initial guidance, and ensure access control and security screening in accordance with established procedures.
- Direct and, when required, escort clients to the appropriate services or offices to ensure safe and efficient movement throughout the facilities.
- Provide clear instructions regarding consular procedures and applicable security measures for visitors.
- Monitor visitor flow to maintain a safe, orderly, and efficient environment while providing professional customer service.
- Respond to general public inquiries in accordance with established procedures and within the limits of the position's responsibilities.
- Perform any other related duties associated with the mission's security operations.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education
This position requires:
Have completed at least the third year of secondary school OR possess an acceptable combination of education, training, and relevant experience deemed equivalent.

Possess relevant experience in at least one of the following fields:
- Public safety or state protection services (e.g., customs, gendarmerie, police, correctional institutions).
- Civil protection, particularly in roles related to emergency response.
- The diplomatic sector, particularly within the security services of a foreign mission or in a related field.
- Environments requiring monitoring, access control, incident management, or the implementation of operational procedures.
Note: Candidates will be required to provide proof of their education.
Language
The Following languages and proficiency levels are required for this job. Candidates will be formally assessed or requested to provide proof of certification on these levels.
- An intermediate proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking) in French.
- An intermediate proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking) in Arabic.
Experience
In order to perform the duties relevant to this job, the following experience is required:
Two (2) years of cumulative experience in one or more of the following areas: public security services, civil protection, the diplomatic sector, or security/surveillance environments, such as access control monitoring, state protection, emergency incident management, and emergency response operations.
Knowledge
- Basic proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Internet browsing, Outlook email, and electronic communication tools.
- General principles, procedures, and practices related to the security of personnel, assets, and facilities.
- Access control, security screening, and verification procedures for individuals, personal belongings, and packages.
- Search techniques and procedures in accordance with established directives.
- Safe operation of security equipment, including screening and inspection devices such as X-ray machines.
- Principles of incident management, emergency response, and security report writing.
- Rules and procedures governing the use of force were applicable, in accordance with current policies and directives.
- Understanding of the role of an embassy and the diplomatic environment.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
- Public security or state protection services (e.g., Customs, Gendarmerie, Police, correctional institutions).
- Civil protection organizations, particularly in roles related to emergency response.
- Diplomatic environments, including security services within a foreign mission or a related field.
- Environments requiring monitoring, access control, incident management, or the application of operational procedures.
- Good knowledge of English.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Operational requirements will be assessed on a ``meet/does not meet`` basis and can be used to determine right fit of a candidate for the position.
- Professional Appearance: Demonstrate a professional appearance and demeanor, including the ability to wear a uniform, required security equipment, and business attire during official events or activities requiring professional representation of the mission.
- Operational Availability: Be available to work according to the operational requirements of the mission in order to provide continuous security services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Shift Work: Ability to work a rotating schedule that includes day and night shifts, weekends, and public holidays. As with all shift work positions, these periods may constitute regular working days in accordance with the applicable terms and conditions of employment.
- Working Hours: Normal hours of work for this position are established in accordance with the terms and conditions of employment for locally engaged staff and the operational requirements of the mission. The average work schedule is 42 hours per week.
- Extended Shifts: Ability to work shifts of up to 12 hours in duration.
- Overtime: The employee may be required to work overtime on occasion, sometimes with short notice, in accordance with the operational requirements of the mission.
- Endurance and Mobility: Ability to remain seated, standing, or conducting patrols for extended periods, both indoors and outdoors.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position. They are to be maintained throughout the employment period.
- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada.
- Driver’s Licence: Possess a valid driver’s licence to conduct security-related duties when required and travel between sites under the responsibility of the Embassy.
- Physical Fitness: Demonstrate a level of physical fitness sufficient to perform the duties associated with the position, including patrols, security rounds, access control, incident response, and tasks requiring physical exertion or the movement of loads when necessary.
