Summary of Duties:
The Embassy of Canada’s Readiness Program (RP) in Jordan is responsible for the management of the four pillars of emergency management (mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery) and the identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of risks related to the security of the Embassy’s people, information, and assets.
The Readiness Program Officer (RPO) reports to the Readiness Program Manager (RPM) who is a Canadian diplomat deployed to Jordan on a rotational basis. The RPO position will support the RPM in their duty to ensure that the Embassy is always in a state of sound operational readiness to respond to emergencies affecting the Canadian community abroad, as well as maintaining and enhancing the Embassy’s operational and physical security.
The RPO’s specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and delivering security and emergency management activities and projects to enhance Readiness within the Embassy and other Canadian endeavours in Jordan.
- Developing and delivering security and emergency management briefing and communication products to employees.
- Developing and maintaining a network of security and emergency management relationships, including with local and national governments, diplomatic missions, corporations, and others, representing the Embassy’s interests.
- Researching, monitoring, and reporting on local security-related developments and events that could have an impact on the Embassy’s people, information and assets.
- Assisting with financial management and administrative tasks of the program, as required, including with contracting and procurement, visitor management and logistical support.
Area of Selection:
This selection process is open to candidates who, at the time of submitting an application, have the right to work and legally reside in Jordan, who hold current documentation allowing them to work in Jordan without restriction, who meet all the essential requirements and conditions of employment mentioned, and whose applications are received by the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
*Language will be assessed further during the process.
Education:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
- Degree from a recognized university in a relevant discipline;
OR - An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience, that is comparable to a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization relevant to the work to be performed.
Language:
- Advanced level of English (oral, written, comprehension)
- Advanced level of Arabic (oral, written, comprehension)
Experience:
- A minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in the field of security and/or risk management and/or emergency management with a public or private-sector organization.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience developing and/or implementing security-related products/policies, including operating procedures and standards.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in building and maintaining a network of professional contacts.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience liaising with Jordanian security authorities.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience providing advice or service to clients.
RATED REQUIREMENTS
The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of the security environment and the relevant security institutions and law-enforcement agencies in Jordan
- Knowledge of security mitigation measures and practices used to enhance physical security and personal safety as well as reduce risk to people, information, and assets.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
- Knowledge of budget management using tools such as Microsoft Excel
- Capacity to communicate in French (oral, written, comprehension)
- Experience overseeing a locally contracted guard force
- Experience working in multicultural environment
- Experience working for an international organization, governmental organization or diplomatic mission in the area of security or emergency management
Operational Requirements:
- Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday
- Working environment: 100% on site in the Embassy (e.g. no remote work)
- Ability to work at short notice after hours or on weekends in an emergency situation
- Ability and willingness to travel both inside and outside of Jordan
- Ability to work on Jordanian public holidays when the mission is open
- Ability and willingness to work overtime, periodic evenings and weekends during high workload periods and emergencies
Conditions of Employment:
Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.
- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
- Other conditions of employment: Ability and willingness to work overtime, periodic evenings and weekends during high workload periods and emergencies
