Summary of Duties:
Under the supervision of the Senior Director, International Operations (Commemoration), Veterans Affairs Canada, the Officer is responsible for planning and delivery of the Canada Remembers (CR) Program. This involves developing and maintaining networks of specific contacts, researching and analyzing the local tourism and commemoration trends, writing notes, briefing papers, analyses and reports, drafting reports on meetings, events and commemorative activities, and any contribution in support of the Veterans Affairs Canada’s commemoration objectives.
Specific tasks may include:
- Provide advice, recommendations and contributions for the development of commemorative activities around Canadian interests;
- Monitor, evaluate and report on commemorative developments in France and Belgium related to the thematic and geographic priorities of the CR Program;
- Provide analysis and recommendations on potential events and activities aligned with the CR Program;
- Plan and organize throughout France to promote Canada’s interests and raise awareness;
- Support the organization of visit to France and Belgium by Canadian dignitaries; and
- Perform other tasks as required by the Mission.
Area of Selection:
This position is open to candidates who have the right to reside in France and work legally and permanently in France as an employee at the time of application, and who meet all the prerequisites i.e. all the essential qualifications and any asset qualifications, and whose applications are received by the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Experience:
The candidate must possess a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience, including two (2) years of recent** professional experience in the following areas:

- Working in a professional, cross-cultural environment (international organizations), in the tourism sector, museums, commemoration or military-linked associations.
- Providing strategic advice, briefings, written reports and other written material, including speeches or talking points, to management and/or clients on issues of concern to their organization.
- Planning events or in project management, including working with partners and/or media.
- Building strategic alliances and cultivating and leveraging a diverse network of contacts.

**The definition of “Recent” is defined as the experience being acquired within the last ten (10) years.
RATED REQUIREMENTS

- Knowledge and experience working in tourism sector in France and/or Belgium.
- Experience working in commemorations of the First and Second World Wars.
- Experience working in an embassy or diplomatic mission abroad.
- University degree in subjects related to history, journalism, communication, or international relations.

Operational Requirements:

- Full-time position, 5 days/week, Monday to Friday.
- Willingness and ability to work occasionally outside normal working hours and / or weekends and to travel outside of Paris and to neighboring countries.
- Work in an open space.
- May require working occasionally outdoors in inclement weather.
- Class B driver’s licence.

Conditions of Employment:
