Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Property Officer, the incumbent performs minor repairs and various maintenance tasks at the Chancery such as painting, assembly, installation, cleaning and/or repair of furniture, etc. 

He/she is responsible for maintaining the green spaces of the Chancery (mowing lawns, trimming hedges and shrubs, watering plants and maintaining flower beds) and maintaining gardening equipment. 

The incumbent provides logistical support by helping to set up rooms and equipment necessary for events, meetings and daily activities of the mission both inside and outside the Chancery. 

 

Area of Selection:

This position is open to candidates who have the right to reside and work in Tunisia as an employee on a permanent basis as well as to all employees of the mission occupying an indeterminate or determined position and to employees hired in Temporary Contract, who have all the essential qualifications and whose applications are received before the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

 

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

  • Completed secondary studies or a relevant combination of education, training and experience in a technical field related to building maintenance, carpentry or landscaping.
  • Technical training or Certificate of Professional Qualification (CQP) in a relevant technical field (for example: related to building maintenance, carpentry or landscaping) 

 

Language:

  • French – Basic Level (oral and written).  

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in general building maintenance.
  • Previous experience in a similar role related to one of the following types of jobs: laborer, gardener, and/or maintenance technician/attendant for a private, commercial or government building. 

 

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of basic techniques and practices related to one or more of the following jobs: worker, gardener, carpenter and/or maintenance technician/attendant.
  • Knowing how to use and maintain various construction tools and equipment. 

 

Competencies:

  • Organization et coordination (Coordination and organization are required to organize own work and carry out specific routine tasks.)
  • Attention to Detail (Attention to detail is required to ensure accuracy and completeness of the work.)
  • Initiative and Action Orientation (Initiative is required to identify actions needed to carry out tasks assigned and proactively, effectively and independently do them.
  • Working with Others (Working with others is required to participate in group initiatives and effectively work as part of a team.)
  • Client Orientation (Client orientation is required to respond politely and appropriately to clients and demonstrate a willingness to help or aid others in a timely manner.)
  • Judgement and discretion (Judgement is required to demonstrate and adopt behaviors consistent with the organization’s values when making routine choices related to the work.) 

 

Abilities: 

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as handling and moving tools, equipment, and other heavy objects such as furniture and sometimes to work in difficult conditions.
  • Ability to perform common maintenance work such as carpentry, painting, and plumbing. 

 

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

 

  • Similar work experience in a diplomatic mission or international organization. 

  • Similar work experience in a commercial or government establishment.  

  • Knowledge of basic techniques in electricity, plumbing, masonry, etc.  

  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in a technical field related to the position.  

 

Operational Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to work occasionally outside normal working hours and/or during weekends.
  • Work schedule: 37.5 hours per week. 
  • Ability to perform physical efforts for prolonged periods and sometimes in uncomfortable positions.
  • Resistance to climatic hazards and long working hours. 

 

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
