Context: 

The Embassy of Canada in Chile is seeking to hire a term EDC Officer at the LE-O1 level within the Export Development Canada Section of the Embassy to cover the temporary absence of the incumbent.

Export Development Canada (EDC) is Canada’s export credit agency, offering innovative financial and commercial solutions to help Canadian exporters and investors expand their international business. EDC’s knowledge and partnerships are used by more than 9,400 Canadian companies and their global customers in up to 200 markets worldwide each year. Approximately 80 per cent of EDC's customers are small and medium-sized businesses.

EDC is a Crown corporation, wholly owned by the Government of Canada, is financially self-sustaining, and is a recognized leader in financial reporting and economic analysis.  While headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, EDC has a world-wide presence.

 

Summary of Duties: 

 Under the supervision of the Senior Regional Manager and with a measure of independent judgment and action, the incumbent of this position: 

  • Promotes EDC’s financial capabilities to Chilean companies interested in procuring goods and  services from Canada;  
  • Advises EDC clients and Canadian companies on business opportunities in the Chilean market;  
  • Supports logistical arrangements for incoming visits or events;  
  • Provides strategic market intelligence via research reports, market studies and statistical summaries related to opportunities, changes in rules and regulations  and challenges for EDC financing and insurance businesses in Chile,  
  • Acts as a liaison between EDC’s Santiago rep office, Ottawa-based colleagues, and clients, as requested 
  • Replies to written and telephone inquiries from EDC internal and external clients, local importers and potential borrowers;  
  • Supports the overall work of the section and performs other program related duties, as required   
  • Supports the Senior Regional Manager (SRM) Chile by coordinating travel arrangements and preparing detailed expense reports.
  • Oversees and manages payment processing and performs a range of administrative functions to ensure the efficient operation of the office

 Essential qualifications  

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications. 

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

Education 

  • Candidates must have finished their university studies at a legally registered institution  

NOTE: This qualification may also be obtained with a post-secondary technical studies at a legally registered institution and a minimum of 5 years of experience defined in the experience section below. 

Candidates must provide proof* of the completion of their education.    

*Valid documents include: “titulo universitario o tecnico” , or an academic record/official letter confirming that 100% of university courses have been completed. 

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience related to the fields of international trade financing, international business development, corporate banking or similar.

 NOTE: For the incumbent with a post-secondary technical studies diploma, the experience must be of five (5) years. 

Language: 

  • Advanced written and spoken proficiency in English and Spanish 

Rated qualifications  

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview online, pre-recorded or in-person, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment. All qualifications must be met. 

Knowledge: 

  • Good knowledge of Chile business markets, banking and/or insurance environments. 
  • Good knowledge of the Canadian export and investment opportunities in Chile.

Asset Qualifications 

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications. 

  • International experience in business markets, banking and/or insurance environments. 
  • Intermediate (similar to B2 in the CEFR) or higher written and spoken proficiency in French. 
 

 Operational Requirements: 

  •  Willingness to work overtime on ad hoc basis throughout the year (including evenings and weekends). 
  • Availability to travel occasionally (national and international) 
  • The Embassy of Canada is an office-based work environment which does not offer remote or hybrid work arrangements. 
  • Willingness and ability to work in a combination of Chile and Canadian statutory holidays, which means you will be required to work on certain holidays.  

 Conditions of Employment: 

 Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position. 

  •  Holding a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period  
  • Security screening: Maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
