Summary of Duties:

This Competition could be used to staff LE-G2 Driver and LE-G3 Senior Driver positions that may arise within the next 12 months.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Executive Office, the Senior Driver provides transportation, delivery and/or errand services to all mission programs. Provides safe driving services to senior officials, program managers, mission staff, and other visitors or dignitaries by ensuring the highest level of safety and security while driving and following all required local and safe driving regulations and practices. May also drive Canada-Based Staff dependents and clients, in certain circumstances. Provides courier and logistics services, arranges for vehicle maintenance and cleaning, undertakes vehicle administrative duties, and may additionally support the mission by assisting with basic administrative, protocol, maintenance and other support services following established mission and departmental policies.

 

Area of Selection:

This position is open to candidates currently resident in the UK, who hold current documentation allowing them to work in the UK without restriction, who meet all of the essential requirements stated and whose applications are received by the closing date.
Candidates holding documentation/visas not renewable in the UK such as the Youth Mobility Visa will not be eligible for this competition.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

  • A secondary school diploma or higher 

Language:

  • Advanced level in English (oral & written) 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience (within the past 5 years) in a profession that includes regular and significant professional passenger driving duties, with a clean driving record.

  • Experience in regular vehicle maintenance, either professionally or privately.

Certification: 

  • A full, clean driver’s license valid for the United Kingdom.

 

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of destinations (Embassies, major Non-Governmental Organizations, government offices, police stations, etc.) and roads in London and surroundings areas
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, safety, and security practices
  • Knowledge - must be well versed in the UK Highway Code, Traffic Regulations and Law pertaining to motor vehicles
  • Basic user-level computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, Internet, etc.)

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Previous experience working in a diplomatic mission, or in an international or governmental organization
  • Working knowledge in French (written and spoken)
  • Experience dealing with VIPs/ dignitaries
  • Training or certification in security, first aid, hazard avoidance, safe driving etc
  • Trained in Advanced Driving Techniques (i.e. evasive, defensive and counter-terrorism)
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Experience in a role where the main duties involved driving a high level official and planning their routes
  • Experience working in a law enforcement/security environment 

 

Operational Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime when required, (early morning / late at night) and during weekends, sometimes with very short notice
  • Flexibility with vacation scheduling, including potential for mandatory time off with advance notice, may be required
  • Normal hours of work will be 37.5 per week
  • Flexibility for shift pattern or staggered hours 
  • May require extensive overtime and travel during High level visit
  • Due to the operational requirements of the position, work from home and/or remote working will not be possible

 

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

- Other conditions of employment:

  • A medical assessment will be required to confirm fitness to carry out the duties of the job role prior to any offer of employment.
  • Possess and maintain a full clean UK driver’s license for the entire duration of the appointment.
  • A driver’s license valid for the United Kingdom: A valid UK driver’s license or a license valid for driving in the United Kingdom for the duration of the employment.
