Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Head of Mission (HOM), the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing all culinary aspects of the mission. This includes the planning, creation, smooth running and preparation of meals for official and unofficial events (includes formal and informal luncheons, dinners, cocktails and receptions) organized by the HOM and other mission programs.
The incumbent will develop and recommend menus, taking into account the particular preferences, requirements and dietary restrictions of guests and the type of event.
The incumbent is responsible for the inventory of food and kitchen supplies. He/she ensures compliance with health standards related to the food preparation process and keeps the kitchen, storage rooms and refrigeration areas cleaned and organized.
He/she ensures the quality of services provided by the staff of the official residence and external service providers.
Area of Selection:
This position is open to candidates residing in Tunisia and entitled to work in Tunisia as an employee on a permanent basis. It is also open to all employees of the Embassy of Canada in Tunisia in indeterminate or term positions, and to employees hired on temporary contracts, who meet all the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
*Language will be assessed further during the process.
Education:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
- Specialized training in cooking at a recognized institution
Language:
- French: intermediate level
- Arabic: basic level
Experience:
- At least five years of experience in the culinary field, gained in a hotel, a restaurant or an international organisation.
RATED REQUIREMENTS
The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
- Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of European culinary techniques and traditions. This includes mastery of classic dishes, cooking methods and sophisticated presentations.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safety rules and standards in Tunisia.
Competencies:
- Thinking things through (Thinking is required to identify key information and underlying elements of a problem, notice trends or patterns, and select and apply the most appropriate option when facing situations or issues that are not obvious and takes action within general guidelines)
- Organization and Coordination (Coordination and organization are required to coordinate multiple tasks, manage own time efficiently, and identify priorities)
- Focus on Quality and Details (Attention to detail is required to ensure accuracy, quality and monitor progress)
- Initiative and Action Orientation (Initiative is required to identify actions required to address and resolve issues proactively; to take ownership on commitments; and to achieve expectations on operational program objectives; or established service standards and persevere through operational issues to obtain results)
- Client Orientation (Client orientation is required to take responsibility for client service, deescalate situations in a professional and polite manner, resolve issues and seek to reassure clients or ensure their satisfaction)
- Judgement and Discretion (Judgement is required to demonstrate and adopt behaviors consistent with the organization’s values and to identify ethical implications when influencing the outcome of a process or a service)
Abilities:
- Ability to manage purchases, stocks and service equipment.
- Ability to manage a team.
- Ability to work long hours.
Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
- Experience working in a diplomatic mission or an international organization.
- Experience working in a reputable catering establishment.
- In-depth knowledge of international and/or Canadian cuisine.
- English proficiency.
- Training and/or experience in preparing pastries.
Operational Requirements:
- Willingness and ability to work occasionally outside of normal working hours and/or weekends.
- Working hours: 48 hours per week.
Conditions of Employment:
Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.
- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
