Salary: 54,514 EUR gross per annum and benefits (as per Terms of Conditions of Employment for Locally-Engaged Staff in Belgium)

Contract Type: Term (Part-time) 15 hours per week, with a possible upward revision.

Term Details: This position is being offered as a replacement for the long-term leave of the position holder. The position will end as soon as the reason for the replacement no longer exists, that is, upon the return to work of the employee you are replacing. At that time, the position will be terminated and will end with a notice period of one week. In the event of termination after two years, the normal notice period will apply.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The mission is seeking to fill a Chef de cuisine position for the Head of Mission’s program.

Under the general supervision of the Head of Mission (HOM), the incumbent is responsible for preparing all culinary aspects related to Canada’s representation abroad, including identifying appropriate Canadian and local dishes and preparing these dishes for official functions.

Core responsibilities include but are not limited to: The chef's role includes appropriate and thoughtful menu planning, product procurement, mise en place, and execution of events including large events for 30+guests. Menus and events are to be reflective of cuisines across Canada and collaboration between.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

All essential qualifications will be assessed. Methods of assessments and screening of candidates may include but are not limited to: verification of credentials, resume and letters of presentation; interviews, exams and practical tests; presentations or other types of assessments. 

 

Education

This position requires:

  • An Associate, College diploma or Professional degree from a legally recognized Post Secondary Institution in Culinary Arts or in Food and Beverage 

or

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

Note: Candidates will be required to provide proof of their education

 

Language

The Following languages and proficiency levels are required for this job. Candidates will be formally assessed or requested to provide proof of certification on these levels. 

  • An advanced proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking) in English.
  • An advanced proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking) in French.

 

Experience

In order to perform the duties relevant to this job, the following experience is required.

  • 3 years cumulative experience in Culinary; Food and Beverage
  • Recent experience (in the past five (5) years) working as a Sous-Chef or Chef in a restaurant, hotel, diplomatic mission, or similar service environment in the Food & Beverage industry
  • Experience in preparing Western cuisine dishes.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Experience in baking bread and making desserts.
  • Experience in meal preparations for large events of 30 guests or more.
  • Experience with MS Suite and digital tools for inventory management and administrative tracking.

 

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Operational requirements will be assessed on a ``meet/do not meet`` basis and can be used to determine right fit of a candidate for the position.

  • Hours of Work: Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations
  • Overtime: Willingness to work overtime on short notice.
  • Willing to work overtime on a frequent and/or irregular basis, depending on the events taking place, with or without notice, outside of normal working hours (i.e. evenings, weekends, and holidays) depending on operational requirements.
  • Willing to work occasionally at different sites in Brussels.
  • Ability to lift boxes up to 20 kg.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
  • Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada.
