Summary of Duties:

Under the supervision of the Official Residence's supervisor, the Official Residence Cleaner is responsible for the maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of the Official Residence which includes: 


1. Ensuring that representative areas are maintained in a high state of tidiness and cleanliness in accordance with an established cleaning schedule.

2. Monitoring and recommending purchase of cleaning supplies and equipment, or professional service/repair.

3. Assisting with hospitality and event duties. This includes ensuring cleanliness of the premises, welcoming guests, preparing set-ups for official events, receptions, and meetings, and serving food and beverages.

4. Provides advice and guidance to cleaners on how to perform various cleaning tasks and on safety measures related to proper material handling and tool and equipment use.

5. Liaises with contractors and local suppliers to order supplies and to conduct errands for the Official Residence.

6. May be required to supervise the work of cleaners by coordinating work schedules and assigning cleaning and housekeeping tasks based on priorities.

Area of Selection:

This position is open to candidates who have the right to reside and work in Egypt as an employee on a permanent basis as well as to all employees of the mission occupying an indeterminate or determined position and to employees hired with a temporary contract, who have all the essential qualifications and whose applications are received before the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

 

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

  • Completion of high school education

OR 
An acceptable combination of education and with at least five (5) additional years (of the years of experience required for the position) related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position.  

Language:

  • Proficiency in Arabic (reading, speaking).
  • Basic communication in English (speaking).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience (within the past 5 years) working as a full time cleaner.  


RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of safety measures in the use of chemicals and cleaning protocols and best practices;
  • Knowledge of laundry and ironing rules;
  • Knowledge of protocol and etiquette (being courteous, discreet and comfortable with high-level personalities VIP, minister, CEO etc.);
  • Knowledge of setting up tables;
  • Knowledge of the use of household appliances.

Competencies:

  • Attention to detail;
  • Judgement and discretion;
  • Communication skills.

Abilities: 

  • Ability to follow instructions;
  • Ability and willingness to work at heights, work on ladders and to lift cleaning equipment.


Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Previous experience in a similar position for a corporate organization, foreign mission or other government office or international organization;
  • Training certificate/diploma in the hospitality and / or housekeeping fields.

 

Operational Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, periodic evenings or weekends.
  • Ability and willingness to work at heights, work on ladders and to lift cleaning equipment.
  • Ability and willingness to wear provided personal protective equipment (PPE) and work with chemicals.


Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

- Other conditions of employment: Medical exam.
